🧪 Testing Guide
TF-Pro Kit
⚠️ Before You Test
- • Collect water sample ~1 ft below the surface
- • Test indoors for most accurate results
- • Rinse equipment before and after each test
- • Keep R-0870 powder dry — replace lid immediately after use
- • Use the Smart Stir for FAS-DPD, CH, and TA tests
- • Replace reagents annually (guaranteed 12 months from purchase)
Daily
Chlorine & pH — Comparator Block
🔵
Reagents: R-0600 (yellow side), R-0014 (red side).
- 1. Rinse the test block and fill both sides to the thin black line.
- 2. Add 5 drops R-0600 to the Yellow side and 5 drops R-0014 to the Red side. Cap and shake well.
- 3. Hold 2–3" from white paper. Match colors to the printed scale. Record pH.
Weekly
Free Chlorine — FAS-DPD Drop Test
🟢
Use for accuracy within 0.5 ppm or FC above 5 ppm. Reagents: R-0870, R-0871, R-0003. Use Chlorine-Only cylinder.
- 1. Fill the Chlorine-Only cylinder to 10 ml.
- 2. Add one scoop of R-0870 powder and swirl. Turns pink if chlorine is present.
- 3. Add R-0871 one drop at a time, swirling, until solution turns completely clear. Count drops.
- 4. FC = drops × 0.5 ppm. Record as Free Chlorine.
- 5. For CC: Add 5 drops R-0003. If it turns pink, titrate with R-0871 until clear. CC = those drops × 0.5.
- 6. TC = FC + CC.
Weekly
Calcium Hardness (CH)
🪨
Reagents: R-0010, R-0011L, R-0012. Clear cylinder to 10 ml.
- 1. Fill clear cylinder to 10 ml.
- 2. Add 10 drops R-0010 and mix. Add 3 drops R-0011L and mix. Red = calcium present.
- 3. Add R-0012 one drop at a time until color changes to blue.
- 4. CH = drops × 25 ppm. Record.
Weekly
Total Alkalinity (TA)
⚗️
Reagents: R-0007, R-0008, R-0009. Clear cylinder to 25 ml.
- 1. Fill clear cylinder to 25 ml.
- 2. Add 2 drops R-0007, mix. Add 5 drops R-0008, mix. Turns green.
- 3. Add R-0009 one drop at a time, swirling. Wipe tip after every drop. Continue until color changes to red.
- 4. TA = drops × 10 ppm. Record.
Weekly
Cyanuric Acid (CYA) — Turbidity Test
☀️
Most subjective test — takes practice. Reagent: R-0013. Uses red-capped CYA mixing bottle and CYA View Tube.
- 1. Fill the red-capped CYA bottle to 7.5 ml with pool water, then to 15 ml with R-0013. Shake 30+ seconds.
- 2. Get the CYA View Tube. Hold at waist level and look down into it.
- 3. Slowly fill the view tube until you can no longer see the black dot at the bottom.
- 4. The gradation at the fill level is your CYA reading. Record.
💡 Test in natural light but out of direct sunlight. This test gets easier with practice.
🧴 Reagent Quick Reference
| Reagent | Used For | Notes |
| R-0870 | FC powder (FAS-DPD) | Very moisture-sensitive — keep dry, lid on immediately |
| R-0871 | FC titrant | Drop by drop until clear; also used for CC |
| R-0003 | CC indicator | Add after FC to check for combined chloramines |
| R-0600 | Chlorine (daily, yellow) | Comparator block — presence/range only |
| R-0014 | pH (daily, red) | Comparator block |
| R-0010, R-0011L, R-0012 | Calcium Hardness | R-0012 titrant — drops × 25 = ppm |
| R-0007, R-0008, R-0009 | Total Alkalinity | R-0009 titrant — drops × 10 = ppm; wipe tip each drop |
| R-0013 | CYA | Red-capped mixing bottle + View Tube |
